Our Team

Uptown Animal Hospital has a dedicated staff that is determined to make your pet’s visit as rewarding, comfortable and pleasant as possible. Our team offers more than 150 years of combined professional service.  Get to know our team:

Dr. Kathryn Tyler is co-owner of Uptown Animal Hospital.  She graduated from University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 1981.  She worked in dairy practices in Northern Illinois and Wisconsin for three years before joining the staff of Uptown Animal Hospital in 1984.  Dr. Tyler lives in the area with her husband and Sheltie.


Dr. Jim Dickes is co-owner of Uptown Animal Hospital.  He graduated from University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 1983 and also holds a Masters in Public Health.  Dr. Dickes was a 10 year Board Member of Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control.  In 2000, he joined the staff of Uptown Animal Hospital.  Dr. Dickes lives in Rogers Park with his partner (also Jim), their dog, Carmen and rabbit, Peanut.  


Dr. Erika Liljahas been co-owner of Uptown Animal Hospital since 2012. After growing up in Holden, Mass., a suburb of Worcester, she moved to Madison, WI for her senior year of high school. She completed a BS in Anthropology at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine before graduating from University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. She joined Uptown Animal Hospital in 2005 and feline medicine is one of her interests, in particular working with geriatric cats. She lives in Lincoln Square with her partner, 2 cats: Diesel and Izzy, 3 Black Java hens: Idgy, Ruth & Sipsey, and 1 dog: Fraiser. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, kayaking, genealogy, and bird watching including watching the chickens chase the squirrels out of the yard.


Dr. Greg Whisler has been happily working at Uptown Animal Hospital since graduating from the College of Veterinary Medicine Kansas State University in 1990.  He is married to a wonderful woman who is also a veterinarian.  Dr. Whisler is currently “owned” by two cats and two dogs.  His hobbies include reading, coin collecting and checking for pet hair in his food before every meal!   


Dr. Lindsay Millergrew up in Southeastern Michigan and graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006.  She did her internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Michigan Veterinary Specialists, a specialty and emergency hospital serving Greater Detroit.  Dr. Miller moved to Chicago in 2007 and started at Uptown Animal Hospital the same year. She has a Chihuahua named Bella and a cat named Mel.


Dr. Rachel Stutzman graduated from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004 and has been practicing in the Chicagoland area since 2006. She did an internship at VCA Asher Animal Hospital in Redding, CA with a focus on small animal emergency medicine and surgery. From this she developed a strong interest in surgery. Dr. Stutzman was delighted to join the staff of Uptown Animal Hospital in January 2013. She has participated in several triathlons and finished the Chicago Marathon in 2012. She has a greyhound named Banker and a cat, Matilda.

Dr. Lenyr Muñoz is excited to be the newest addition to Uptown Animal Hospital. She came to veterinary medicine after following a different path. She grew up in North Miami, Florida and graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art - focusing on painting and photography. After moving to Chicago and working as a web designer for several years, she decided to pursue a life long interest in animals and medicine and enrolled in the Pre-Health program at Northwestern University. She then received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in May 2014. Dr. Muñoz has particular interest in feline medicine and soft tissue surgery. She volunteers for, a non-profit low cost feline spay/neuter program. Dr. Muñoz shares her life with her husband John and their 2 senior kitties-Max (19) and Pi (16). In her spare time, she enjoys vegetarian cooking, trivia, reading, watching films, bicycling around Chicago and long distance walking.

Dr. John MacLellan is Chief of Staff Emeritus at Uptown Animal Hospital.  He resided in the Andersonville area since 1959 and began working at the hospital as an Animal Caretaker in 1966. He graduated from University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 1974 and took over the clinic the same year. After more than forty years of service to the community, he retired in 2014. He is currently enjoying his time off fishing as much as possible.
